Music Venues in Southampton

Southampton attracts some fantastic international musicians to our vibrant city!

We also have a thriving underground music scene, with several really exciting up and coming bands that are certainly going to make it big over the next few years.

Here at Singing Lessons Southampton we really encourage our singing students to go and see as many gigs as possible to learn all about the stagecraft of being a successful frontperson. There is much more to singing live than simply just singing - think Freddie Mercury! So to get involved with our music scene, know where to check out bands & learn where you should try and get your first gig have a read below.

Southampton Guildhall

Southampton Guildhall is a huge music venue in Southampton that attracts some of the biggest bands on the international circuit to rock audiences of over 1,750 fans. Located at The Civic Centre, SO14 7LP, the likes of Two Door Cinema Club, Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party, The Maccabees, The Wombats, Band of Skulls, Friendly Fires, Ellie Goulding and Thin Lizzy are just a few of the bands that have performed during the last two years. Any true music fan in Southampton should keep their eye on who is performing here, with extremely reasonable ticketprices for the extremely high level of artist who plays here. No doubt it will be you one day up on that stage performing to a packed hometown crowd.

The University of Southampton Student Union

The University of Southampton Student Union has played host to some amazing gigs over the years, from T-Rex in the late 60s to Chase & Status in the late 2000s. The likes of We Are Scientists, Pete Doherty, The Hold Steady (pictured) and Feeder have performed to packed student audiences in more recent times with the 900 capacity venue being sold out more often than not. If you are the singer of an up and coming local band you should be knocking the door down of the University's SU to get a supporting slot alongside some of these great bands. Located on University Road, SO17 1BJ the SU should be a staple diet for all local music fans, students and non-students alike.

The Brook

The Brook is a 600 capacity venue located at 466 Portswood Rd, Southampton SO17 3SD. It is a lively, diverse and award-winning Independent Music Venue that has been on the go since 1994. Long considered a favourite in the South of England. It is a large and beautiful old Victorian building full of character and charm, yet still maintaining an intimate concert space, where all who want can get up close and personal with live artists and performers. They have regular band nights and have even had the likes of James Brown, Passenger, Tom Odell, Blue Oyster Cult & Bob Geldof perform there.

Southampton Joiners

Southampton Joiners is a small venue that you will no doubt of heard of if you have ever toured the UK Rock/Metal Scene. This small venue has hosted some of the UK's biggest up and coming rock acts and still continue to do so. They usually have a few gigs per week including touring artists.
